Honouring the Guiding Lights of Knowledge and Wisdom
“A guru’s wisdom is the light that illuminates our path, guiding us from ignorance to knowledge and from darkness to enlightenment.”
Amrita Vidyalayam, Nallampalayam celebrated Guru Purnima by organizing a Pada Pooja ceremony to honour and show gratitude to the parents of our students. This special event, held from July 19th to 22nd underscored the significant role that parents play as the first and foremost gurus in their children’s lives.
Our revered Swamiji Ajamritananda Puri accepted our invitation and guided the students step-by-step through the Pada Pooja ceremony for their parents. Pada Pooja is an ancient Indian tradition where the feet of elders, especially parents and teachers, are washed as a mark of respect and gratitude. This ritual symbolizes humility and acknowledges the invaluable guidance and sacrifices made by parents in nurturing their children.
The ceremony commenced with Swamiji and Swamini Muktamrita Prana, the Manager of the school, performing Padukabhishekam for our Sadguru Amma’s padukas. Swamiji emphasized the importance of Matru Vandana, highlighting that parents are our first gurus and encouraging students to seek blessings from their parents on this auspicious occasion. The students then performed the Pada Pooja for their parents in a beautifully decorated hall, washing their feet with water, applying sandalwood paste, and offering flowers. The atmosphere was filled with devotion and reverence as parents and children participated in this profound act of gratitude.
Following the pooja, students presented a cultural performance, including mantras, Guru Strotras, and bhajans, to express their gratitude towards their parents.
The Guru Purnima celebration at our school was a resounding success, filled with joy, gratitude, and a deep sense of respect for parents. The event not only highlighted the importance of the parent-child and guru-shishya relationships, but also fostered a sense of community and mutual appreciation among students and teachers.
